{SPT} tea time, a cupcake, a new 'do
Taking time for tea, week two.
Continuing the process of letting go of my self-criticism as the picture develops. Some days are harder than others. I think, "I look that tired?" or "double chin, that bad, i look huge" or "I need the sun! I am so pale." Then the next day, I look again and realize that this is one very brief moment in time. One look. One pause. And it does not represent my whole being, who I really am.
(Well, I like to think that the first picture kind of does. I was laughing about how I am posing in front of the camera every single day. Who does that? And this photo captured me in a moment of joy, silliness, and wonder. I would like to think that this is me - at least the very best of me inside and out.)
And yes, I did get a haircut and a new color. You can't really tell with these little polaroids (and the fact that sometimes I have done nothing with my hair). But it is in fact a bit red now. Imagine taking dark brown and adding purple and magenta. This would be the color of the hair on my head.
If you click on the photo it will take you to my flickr page and you can see what I am really drinking every day, the time, and the date.

oooohhhh love these!
the smiley one is my favorite because YOU really come out in that one.
sexy, sexy new hair~do! (prrr kitty kitty)
you go purdy girl.
I'm digging the new do! You look fabulous! I love the smiley pic, and I also love the one beside it - you look so glamorous.
Looking at these pictures, I do realize I have one question for you - just how many mugs do you actually have? ;)
Ps Do you ever notice how cool it is that when you log in for a comment you get to choose your identity? Who should I be today?
everyone's getting their hair cut!
and love the glasses....
Wonderful series and I love the haircut! I really like the photo where your dog (Golden Retriever?) is checking out what you're up to. :-)
Love these, what great pics. I agree with bohemian girlie...the smiling one is my fave too.
Great new do too. I have been thinking of chopping off my hair too, maybe it's in the air.
I also really love the art work on your previous post. I love how you let go and just created it....inspiring!
what i love is that you are examining this process of self judgment and working so diligently to change that and embrace your beautiful self! you are being so brave and making such important changes in your life. fabulous! great pics, too!
"Tea Portraits" sounds kind of like the title of a novel, no? Still love this idea -- I haven't participated in SPT but I did have to take a photo of myself recently and found it very unsettling. Takes some getting used to -- seeing myself close up, in the photos, I didn't look the same as I'd looked only moments before in the mirror. Weird.
What kind of animal is on the mug of the top picture? A raven or a loon? I like the colors in your hair - cool...the lady that styles my hair (Dayla) wants to color mine too...I will be a copycatter now! Your pictures are emitting more emotions I see...and the one where you are holding the cupcake makes me smile because you look "Naughty!" Hahahaha...and the lighting in your house looks very warm and makes me want to come over and sleep on your couch. The end

Hi there -
I wholeheartedly agree. I LOVE the one with you smiling. You look happy and cheeky and charming and downright adorable. SO cute!! I love this - can't wait to see next week's photos!!
P.S. good hair!!
love the glasses.
but i particularly like
the top picture...
(i'm not good with lefts & rights
so you will have to bear with me)
the top picture where
you look kind of
mysterious
and mischievious...
like you are planning something
kind of
evil
heeheehee
:)
The color of your hair has officially inspired me to call the salon today--that's exactly what I am looking for! :) I love the openness you show in these pictures. I really get a sense of your personality in these.
And I want tea now! Or coffee, I'm not picky. :)
I love ths project. I know that seeing yourself without criticism is so hard. I look in the mirror and I SEE a 36 year old woman looking back at me. WHEN did that happen. Stunning. Thank you for sharing this process with us.
I found you through self-portrait Tuesday. I love your tea time collage! You have a great blog:)
and that first pic is my favorite! you look full of life. brava to you for continuing to face the image that stares back...for daring to love her and shower her with grace and for looking deeper than the surface, to what really matters, to the realness!
I love these pictures and what you wrote! Great spt!
Love the smiley face one as well! What a great way to build self-esteem and love for yourself. Maybe we should all do this!! What's your favorite kind of tea?? Or are you a coffee girl?
thank you all for your kind comments. you all make my day and remind me that yes, i will take another picture today. that even though this can be hard it is so good at the same time. and thanks for the nice words about my haircut and new color. i am almost a red head - one of my three things wishes from a few weeks ago :)
to answer jamie: we have a lot of mugs! a lot of them. i would like to collect only handmade mugs by independent artists but somehow my husband keeps buying disney and other mugs (like one with a humpback whale - my favorite animal - so nice that he thought of me when christmas shopping...but really, i want to start collecting only handmade mugs by independent artists).
so julia - that mug is not a loon or a raven but eeyore. yes eeyore. (see answer above)
deb - yes, millie is a golden retriever
m - my favorite tea is green tea. i love it. just plain old green tea. the "woodsy-er" the better. i actually no longer even use sweetener in my tea because i love to taste all the flavors in tea. but i am also a coffee drinker - I just can't make a good pot of coffee to save my life. luckily i live in the pacific northwest so a great mocha or latte is a short drive away.
Why no mention of your smile? Why no mention of your dazzling smile? Can you not see it? Look! See that magic smile of yours!

It's always good to be reminded we have a choice about what we feed our mind as well as our body. Lovely post.
I like the smiley one, too.
I love these pictures. You look beautiful. Thanks for sharing snippets of your journey through this process.
well, Liz I am going to go against the flow of the rest of your admirers and fellow bloggers ... and say the photo I like the best (of this series) is the one with the brownish mug http://www.flickr.com/photos/76142718@N00/112589063/" REL="nofollow">this photo: -- the third one from the top on the left ... heheh. this one just seems to express your essence -- your open eyes, your open-ness to whatever life brings you, the balance between your fun-loving and your serious side, you look in this photo as if you are just about to say something ... you are on the cusp, which really, you are. You're right there.
Of course, I like the one where you're smiling too. But the one I mentioned first, the one I like best has a smile too. It's just that you are smiling inwardly in that one.
Your haircut and new color look great, btw. Haircuts are healthy, if for no other reason than they let us experiment with more than one persona. (and i'm not talking multiple personalities here... heheh) But it's a flattering style on you. Right on!
Thanks, too, Liz for commenting on my self portrait yesterday. That's something new for me to post self portraits and I think for similar reasons to what others have said they feel. Our body images are perfect examples of a love/hate thing -- the distortions our hearts and minds place upon who we really are. And I'm as susceptible to that as anyone. So I appreciate your feedback on that.
I'm thrilled to see more of these. I really don't know why except that they just capture so beautifully what I've come to love about visiting Be Present, Be Here. They are real and tender and happy and gutsy. And that first picture does seem to capture the very best of Liz Elayne - thank you so much!
I like these and the idea behind them of practicing self-acceptance.
