good morning monday {october 23}

singing

I am one of those people who hums along with instrumental music. I have been known to make up sounds that are words to this music…I have been spending time with the soundtracks from The Hours and Chocolat lately. Just love how those soundtracks put your right back into the movies.

watching

Don Juan DeMarco. One of my all-time favorite movies. I have probably seen it at least twenty times. In college, I used to watch it almost weekly (okay so maybe more than twenty times). I hadn’t seen it in a few years, and as I was sewing this weekend, I recited the lines along with Mr. Depp and Mr. Brando. It has one of my favorite last lines of all time.

The first season of House (I am through the first four episodes. This is one creepy, good show.)

Sense and Sensibility. Another movie I have seen over and over again. My two favorite moments: When Marianne call to Col Brandon in the doorway; she is in bed ill and has just started to get better. How his face changes, ever so slightly, (don’t blink you will miss it) when she says thank you. That look = hope. I lost a piece of my heart to Alan Rickman the first time I saw that movie (yes, I do mean Snape…he is so good). My other favorite moment is when Eleanor spontaneously combusts into tears when she realizes Edward is not married. I love her reaction. Pure emotion. Beautiful.

reading

I must be honest that I have mostly just been reading my work (I am an editor). And I have spent a few minutes with a two-week-old Entertainment Weekly.

creating

Purses! I will have show and tell soon…

Pictures with my camera. Walking around Point Defiance Park Friday afternoon has reminded me of all the gorgeous colors in the world. So many gorgeous colors and textures. (Point Defiance Park was where I snapped those photos of the roses I posted this weekend. It is an incredible park right on Puget Sound. Our delightful zoo is there so I could actually hear elephants as I took pictures.)

delicate

Last year at this time I took my camera with me everywhere, always thinking about what pictures to post here on this blog. The photos I took last Friday are reminding me of that feeling.

enjoying

Listening to my golden retriever snore. Really, I love that sound.

A couple of delightful phone conversations with Alexandra this weekend. She called to let me know she did try the pumpkin doughnut at Starbucks. You, yes you, you should go try one too! (Oh and Alexandra – I did try the maple coffee drink…oh my goodness.)

cooking/eating

All these gorgeous veggies and fruits. I love Tiny’s! Any thoughts on what to make with bok choy?

147_4723

And I have been inspired to actually start cooking again. Started with Ina’s turkey meatloaf. (yummy)

drinking

A maple macchiato from Starbucks. (No they don’t pay me to advertise…but it is hard to escape that place out here. So good.)

anticipating

A visit from some dear friends…in just a few short days.

thinking

About the lovely afternoon I spent with Letha on Saturday. We wandered through Ballard (a delightful Seattle neighborhood full of fun stores and cafes. They have so many coffee shops! (Oh I bought some shoes I will have to model for you!)

About how to redo the template of this blog so that I can post larger pictures without the sidebar being knocked down to the bottom of the screen. Any suggestions? On the same note: Has anyone switched from blogger to another blog host and been able to move their archives? If yes, please let me know how you did it. (thanks!)

loving

A house full of candlelight. Last year at about this time, I read a blog post about how someone in this neck of the woods starts lighting candles before dusk so that the house is full of candlelight when it starts getting dark so early. Then as she walks around the house blowing them out before going to bed, she says blessings for people in her life. I have started doing this as well. It makes the house so yummy and cozy and warm. And blessings are always a good thing.

What have you been up to?

hi liz... i've been indulging in your archives and can't wait for more time to read more later tonight. i was wondering if i felt like commenting on some of your older posts ~ will you find them, or does it make more sense to comment about old ones under your most recent post?
hope you are well & enjoying your starbucks!

Love your Monday posts!

I love Starbucks too. There is none near where I live which is actually a good thing because there was a Starbucks next door to the Gap I use to work at and it can get kind of expensive!

I have made Bok Choy a few times. Usually I stirfry it with olive oil, garlic, ginger and a little salt and pepper. I also used it in some wonton soup I made.

YummY!
:)

So glad your camera called to you! These photos are just amazing. And I love your post about what to do. I'm now in search of the soundtrack to Chocolat, I love that movie. Keeping you and yours in my heart ...

Oh my goodness, what a warm and wonderful weekend and post! The picture of the purple flower is absolutely stunning, as it sounds like your entire weekend was.

The candle idea is beautiful and symbolic...lovely, and thank you for sharing it.

I haven't tried the maple machiatto yet, but I tried the maple frappiccino (sp?) Friday and it was Yum!

About the blog template, you can view my source code if it'll help you see exactly what I mean, but you need to pull up your template and fairly close to the top you'll find some numbers defining how large each section is and you need to change those. There will be three of them - Content (the overall page), Main, and Sidebar. Right now I have mine set to 750px, 460px, and 240px, respectively. The main and sidebar numbers can't add up to more than the overall content number. At those settings I can show pics up to 450 px wide without them overlapping my sidebar.

If you get info on the issue of transferring archives, could you pass it along to me, please? That is one of THE big issues that's been stoppnig me from moving from Blogger to Typepad or Wordpress.

oh, liz...

i just love reading your words. every.single.time i come here i know EXACTLY, within a few seconds, why i did. i think tonight what inspired me so much was the lighting of the candles, and listening to millie snore. (i know exactly what you mean. i love when animals relax their guardianship enough to sleep that deeply around their humans - it warms my heart.)

i just love the way you write, too. it feels so healing to just come here and virtually share a coffee with you, or cuddle on the couch and watch scenes from favourite movies. you are changing the world, one good morning monday post at a time.

thank you for being you, my lovely friend.

p.s. if you hear about the transferring of archives to another site, could you let me know? ;)

liz,

i have only been able to post once since may and load any images, so i have stopped blogging. it is very frustrating to me to have a post ready to go yet be unable to load any images to illustrate it. i become angry and irritated and just stop to save my own sanity. i have been advised by many to move my blog, but the idea of losing my archives has kept me from doing it. if anyone sends you email with coding information about how to transfer the archives AND the comments, please email to me. i would be so appreciative. i have heard from friends that i will also lose comments on posts when moving them.

it looks like blogger could remedy this issue. i have been dealing with it since may - a long time for engineers to continue to sit in the dark about how to resolve bugs in programming which they and their colleagues created!

your hydrangea image is so lovely! we must get over to pt defiance at some point. it sounds like a beautiful place.

maple coffee drinks?! oh my...you've already gotten me addicted to pumpkin lattes...but now maple one, too?! i'm in trouble.

GOOD trouble. ;)

Your photos of flowers are absolutely beautiful, Liz.

I love coming here. I get such a nice sense of calm.

Your flowers have been so incredibly lovely to me...just watching them pop up on the screen is a delight. I took my camera (not the best by any stretch of the imagination...but digital and I'm learning...) with us on our walk yesterday. I fell in love with the most beautiful tree--and my batteries promptly died. Ah, rookie move, for sure. Thank you for sharing what you've been up to...

that hydrangea is like spun silk. beautifully captured. thanks for this inspiring post!

Beautiful hydrangea shot. Such depth of field.

My mom has an excellent recipe for bok choy. It is an Asian dish - Filipino beef stew called Sinigang. This is not her own special recipe, but I found a http://www.recipezaar.com/189132" REL="nofollow">similar one if you'd like to try something new. It's a great dish to serve on those cold windy days.

i had not had a single johnny depp thought for the past hour and now look...he's all up in my head again!

both don juan de marco (and yes i love that one too) and sense and sensibility have fabulous soundtracks too...

and yes, my opion of alan rickman totally changed after seeing this movie...before this movie i had only seen him play real meanies (like in robin hood--kevin costner)...his role in this movie melted my heart...and hugh grant...what a beautifully perfect movie...

9 days...

hope your haircut goes better than mine...

I love that candle idea....i may try it too...may have to get a few hurricane lamps to keep our three kitties safe. They seem to be oblivious to candles.

My mother lit real candles on the xmas tree each year on xmas eve and each one was in remmberence of someone.

Boch choy is great steamed with butter and a bit of salt.

The beauty of your flower photos lingers in my minds eye.

9 days...

Love you
XOXOXO
