poetry thursday

sometimes i watch you as you read the paper
you do not notice
i sit, cross-legged on the couch
a smile to my lips
as out of the corner of my eye i see
your bent elbows leaning
on the arms of the old green chair
that used to be my father's
i keep my head still
so that i don't distract you
or cause you to sense my glance
i wish i could climb up into your brain
and see the wheels turn
and synapses connect

sometimes i watch you as you read the paper
wanting to take a peek
and know what you know

I'm guessing that this is about your husband? It is lovely, just bursting with quiet admiration, respect, and love! Such a tender piece of writing--I'm so grateful that you shared it!

u. r. a POET!! i love the details of this poem. your smile, the bent elbows on the arms of the old green chair that used to be your fathers, climbing into his brain...this poem speaks of much more than just that moment. this poem makes me love poetry. :)

hi Liz
your poem really touched me. so loving. so sweet. so brave. so playful. i really enjoy reading peoples own work. it affords me a window seat to the author, it paints a little bit of their personality... their dreams... in words. thank you for sharing =)

Hi Liz,
love your poem; I am a poet as well and have a poetry blog. I tried emailing you at poetrythursday@gmail.com and kept getting an error message.

would you please add me to your list of participants for Poetry Thursday? I will be joining Poetry Thursday and adding a poem each week. I would also like your Poetry Thursday button for my blog as well. Can you send me the code?
thank you.
