olympic peninsula forest . april, 2009

i wonder about the moment
when the fern
dug in,
insisting it had found
its true home
50 feet from the earth,
rooted in the oak.
did the moss feel surprise
or just sigh,
knowing the quiet
was too good to be true?

Oh my goodness!! This is SO beautiful! Yes, I wonder what the moss felt? This is a question that would surface over and over and over again with an afternoon walk down the black trails of Stout Grove in the northern CA Redwoods....a place I love dearly. Sigh.

I love this one, Liz! Ferns and moss are two of my favorites in nature. Wondering what they felt makes them all the more startling and sweet.
