a week in august

week in august 7

earlier this month, my dad married a woman i have come to call my friend over the last few years. while we were in the PICU in July, it became clear that because of ellie's health, we would be unable to travel to their wedding. on one of those PICU days, i answered my dad's question of "how are you doing?" with "after all this is over, i might have to take a trip to the ocean and stand in front of the waves, before everyone else is awake, and yell how i am really feeling out into the universe." the next day, he called and said that he and anne had talked and they were wondering if they could come out the week after the wedding and take us all to the ocean (if ellie was able to take a shorter trip).

and to the ocean we went....

today, i am sharing a few of my favorite photos that really represent the goodness of our trip to me.

Liz, what beautiful pictures and thoughts. I'm praying for your family every day. You are so fortunate to have your Dad and Anne in your lives. Love and prayers. Aunt Pat. The baby is beautiful.

Beautiful, Liz. I am glad you had that space and time for all of you to be together and at the ocean.

I love your hat. I am growing out my hair (from really short) and it is in that horrible stage where I want to do nothing but hide it. Need more hats.

dear marvelous tenderheart, I soooo get your need to go to the sea, as I feel the pull so every often...and yes, I do need to come to the oregon coast. let's work out the deets, m'kay? ;)
seriously, thank you for your raw honesty - I need to take a picture of how I envision myself holding the space for you - the image pops into my mind several times a day...

this is all so beautiful. i love that you were so open and honest with your dad, telling him exactly what you needed. and because you did that things unfolded for you just as you need them to you. what stunning photos. I can feel the love coming through my screen.

Liz, pictures so beautiful I'm going to seriously have to save for a DSLR! What a wonderful gesture by your dad and his wife, and I absolutely love the picture of him feeding Ellie. Ellie is so adorable - enjoy every minute with her.

Someday I am going to have to get to the Oregon coast. I'm a "Jersey girl" now in AZ nowhere near a beach and I really miss it. Wishing you and your family the best on this new journey.
