a few more journaling thoughts
So the Smash Journal love continues. As I mention in the video, I received a few emails with questions so I thought I would share a bit more in this video. (Be sure to check out my first post about how I am creating a practice around my journal and read the great comments in that post where people share their own thoughts about journaling.) I have decided to just call this my "Creative Wholeness Journal" because that really sums up all that it holds right now.
Settle in with a cup of tea...
A few notes about things I mention in the video:
1) Jen Lee totally made a video when I asked her to share the way she uses her journal. So excited for you to hear her thoughts and be inspired. Watch her video here. (Thank you Jen!) And while you are over on her site, check out the t-shirts she has been posting about that are coming soon. LOVE her shirts!
2) I am using my new red Smash journal for ecourse ideas. I really do think creating a journal with tabs for your current projects is such a good idea. Do you do this? Would love to know more from those of you who do. I have tried the 3-ring binder approach in the past, but it didn't stick. Hoping this will as my current approach of having notes in three spiral notebooks (depending on which I can find in a given moment) is not so much supporting me.
3) Here is a link to Tricia's shop of beautiful handmade journals. I have one of her coptic-stitched hardcover journals that I use for notes at my retreats. Love it.
4) A few of you have asked me about the sticky notes I am using (since you too thought they were cute!). It looks like the company, Galison, that makes them has discontinued this exact line, but I did find their website with so many other delightful options and other good things to distract your for a bit. I also have these that I am using in the new journal.
Thank you for continuing to share your thoughts about your own idea journaling and daily journaling. It is so much fun to learn from one another.

could you (and these journaling posts) be any more delightful? Love in every sense of the word! I sense a SMASH book purchase in my near future :).
I agree with Carrie! Your journaling posts are so exciting! I've journaled since I was a kid/teenager but had a traumatic realization that when I left home my journals were left unattended...therefore probably read by the very people I was journaling about! I haven't written in a journal in 10 years and to say that I am excited about this again is an understatement. I have lots of amazing changes coming up in my life and as exciting as that all is it sometimes causes anxiety and doubt. In addition to the SMASH journal (that should be arriving today!!!!) I am also planning on a stream of consciousness journal. No rules...just writing. *sigh*
It feels good. Thanks for the inspiration. I am off now to click on the links you gave us for all the goodies!
Thanks Liz!!!! :O)
yup...i too have been journaling again...well, lets just say the way i journal has changed...so thank you :o) the northwest has indeed stopped cold (lol) I was finally able to get my video up and running...have a peek...from my neck of the northwest to yours (we ended up with 11")

Hi Liz! I watched your first video and Jen's yesterday and was so inspired, I dug out my old journals and created a piece over on my blog about my journaling practice and how it has changed over the years. I find this topic really fascinating! It has been so helpful for me to recognize that my journaling needs will change as I change. I keep a book similar to Jen's although I call it my "To Remember" notebook. Initially I was feeling like I needed to find one journaling type or practice that suited all my needs. But now I am realizing I will always have multiple journals to address shifting priorities and interests. One type may be for organizing and accountability, another for self inquiry and understanding and another as a record of the details of my life. Maybe I will figure out a way to blend the three but for now my life is scattered amongst many, many journals!
Thank you for instigating this discussion. I love the sharing and mutual inspiration :)

I love the way you are so "little girl" excited about your Smash book. It is very infectious.
I recently bought one for my granddaughter for her 18th birthday. I hope she loves her's
as much as you do.
I have just watched your video, it is very inspiring, your enthusiasm is infectious.
Ha - last year when my word was "imagine" I created a "BS journal" (brain-storming!) and divided it into sections like that. It turned out to be so helpful that I just made a new one for this year with new tabs and categories. I love having my thoughts in one place and wish I would have started it a long time ago..... never too late though!! Enjoyed hearing your voice....
Okay - now I am going to be checking every week to see if you did do another vlog because I LOVE THEM! It must be that I so identify with your gentle way and your similar ideas about wholeness, cooking, nesting, jewelry and most of all Smashbooking! Can't wait to see what's new again soon. I may even have to hop out to get another Smashbook for myself!
you just make me so happy. it is nice to know that i am not alone here as well! i was sooo excited after watching your first smash book video that i ordered one! it should be here soon. i am now thinking about how i want to use it. as you were talking i was thinking about my word for the year and how that would work into my journal . we shall see how it goes. :) (might be need some help) i am trying this year to be come more connected and aware and i have found that it helps to talk things through with others. hope you have a good weekend. thanks for being there!
love hearing of this journey liz...inspired to declutter my own crazy journal system to something that's more effective ant helpful
Ok....I must agree with your enthusiasm about those Smash journals! Bought one already (LOVE IT) and I am going to go and get a second one. So hard to choose! Just signed up for your Create Space ecourse (yay!) and plan on using it for that.
Thank you for being you Liz! Your blog is just what I need to unwind and "breathe" during the course of my crazy hectic "mom" days! I have four little ones that run around my little corner and although they exhaust me (in a good way) I wouldn't change a thing. Your blog is my time to sit back with a cup of tea and chill. Looking forward to your course!!
Just popping in to say thanks for the videos and thoughts about the Smash journal. Love your voice and love your work! I have your book as well which I still love to thumb through. I can't wait to get a Smash journal!
Liz ~ I simply adore your videos. Hearing your voice and seeing you brings such a smile to my face. Love, love, love.
I also love hearing about your process with your journal. I myself am in a bit of a transition with how I use my journal and what works for me. It is so wonderful to hear what others do as well. Thank you for this.
Sending you lots of love. xoxo
Liz, I love love love your videos :) I look forward to meeting you some day at one of your delicious retreats!
Just wanted to tell you I just ordered myself a smash journal and some accessories and I am SO excited! Thanks for the heads up on such a fun and creative tool.
