While working on orders over the weekend, I decided to create a new simple necklace for myself. Something in a favorite color that I could wear all the time (and maybe not ever take off); something that would lend itself to layers when I want to wear one of Kelly's girls or a necklace by Jen or something by my other dear friend Jen or my current favorite necklace by Nina or one of my own soul mantra lockets (or all of them layered); something that would remind me of beauty and joy and make me smile.

So I pulled out this blue bead because this shade of blue makes me so very happy, and I created a simple "one bead" necklace. And after wearing it for several days and falling more in love with it, I thought I would add a few like it to the shop. Five colors are available at this time (two blues, green, purple amethyst, and red), but if you see a bead in the shop that you would love on a simple necklace like this, send me a note and we can talk about it. 

Please note: I will be closing the shop on October 3 for about ten days or so while I get ready for and host the Create Magic Retreat. When the shop reopens, my plan is to have a bit of a reorganization of things, including a few new locket designs and a plan for holiday season custom orders. If you have questions while I am away, just send a note as I will be replying to emails as I can.

a few necklaces from the current collection in the shop

Today, I'm spending time sketching out some designs and plans for my fall and early winter necklace collections. In doing that, I realized that I hadn't yet shared a glimpse into the current late summer collection I just uploaded to the shop last week. The mosaic above shows just a few. I was really inspired to make some long (and even longer) layering pieces. A couple of customers were so inspired by the sneak peek photo of Betty that they ordered a grouping of necklaces from this collection to be worn layered. Love all those layers! 

I am also working on a plan to simplify custom orders around the holidays. I have never quite wrapped my arms around this process, but I am brainstorming to try and find the best way to facilitate this on Etsy. Right now, I think having a page on my website to direct customer's to might be the best option. It would include photos and instructions on what can be customized and so on. Still rolling that around in my mind though...

And now, since all members of my family are currently napping in this afternoon heat, I am off to get that cupcake I mentioned in yesterday's post. For real. Yep. Photos to come.

simple circles

New earrings, including the pairs pictured above and a few others, are now in the shop. Thanks so much for the requests for simple earrings to pair with your soul mantra necklaces, which pushed me to create these. I have been wearing the simple circles daily and love how light they are.

inviting in joy (a musing and a shop special

this year, activiely seeking joy is part of my daily practice. i want to be in this place where each day i send joy an invitation that if said aloud my sound a bit like "hello joy. i know you are out just waiting to be discovered. know that my heart is open and ready for you. i choose you. i invite you in."

and joy comes in.

because it is always there. even when my face frowns and my heart is heavy, it is there. i just have to open my eyes, my heart.

this truth annoys me at times. does that sound funny? well, sometimes seeking joy is not at the top of my list, but still in comes joy with its happy pink blooms and chocolate-covered goodness and its laughter and its kindreds and its silliness and its quietness and its music and its dancing.

each day, joy pushes me to know that it can be a companion to real and truth and all that happens in a life. 

joy can be my companion.

so tuesday, i found myself packing up the family in the car for a late evening trip to barnes and noble (with an oh my goodness she is getting a molar already 13 month old) because rumor had it one of my lockets had found its way into the latest somerset life. and when i sat on the bench in the magazine section and found that locket on the "things we love in life" page, i smiled widely as joy snuck in again. even though i had tried to stand inside the grumps and fears most of the day (it was one of those days), there was joy in the form of a little paragraph from christen olivarez about the locket she had purchased at the pen & paper retreat.

betty shows off some new soul mantra necklaces 

The shop has reopened and I have filled it with lots of new necklaces that are ready to be sent out into the world. 

The phrases I am called to work with these days are about honoring the path that we are on as we seek the beauty in the midst of all of it…as we seek the home inside ourselves where we can simply show up as us. I am so grateful to be able to create and share these talismans knowing they will find their way to where they are most needed. Currently, I am wearing my own version of this necklace to remind myself that I know the way...

You might have noticed that I am making a few subtle changes around here, starting with changing the name of my shop to "soul mantras and other stories." I am still having fun with fabric (more on that soon!), but for now, this shop will only be carrying jewelry. 

Thank you for walking beside me on the journey. Looking forward to sharing more in this spot now that I am emerging from re-entry mode post retreat.
